SERVPRO Helps Manage the Restoration Processes in Riverview Properties
On the South East center of Hillsborough County lies Riverview, a census-designated place founded on the Alafia River's northern shores in 1885. The area has an extended history of settlement because, in the 1830s, the southern shore was the early settlers' home. The southern settlement was known as Peru, which in the indigenous language meant the 'straight part of the river.' The area was favored by both the Floridian Indians and the settlers because of the abundance of fresh game. The river was also packed with fish.
The River of Fire Legacy
One of the defining aspects of the area was the Alafia River which was famed for glowing during nighttime. The name Alafia translates to "the river of fire," although the phenomenon had nothing to do with fire. It was caused by phosphorus lying on the river bottom that would glow at night.
The strange river phenomenon directly helped the economic growth in the area. In the mid-1880s, the Peruvian Mining Company started extracting pebble phosphate from the river. The people working for the mining operation needed decent accommodation, and the company built the Alafia Hotel in 1898. It was situated west of where the W.T. Williams bridge is located today.
Interesting Things to Do in Riverview
The area has developed over the years attracting visitors and new inhabitants. Like the early settlers were attracted by resource abundance, the area's population ballooned since the early 2000s as young families and retirees arrived in the area, drawn in by affordable housing, good schools, and the warm weather. The Alafia River charm still draws in people. Some of the exciting places you cans visit in the area include:
Bell Creek Nature Preserve
Taking a trip to the preserve is one of the best ways to experience the area's natural habitat. The 597-acre reserve has different habitats, including grasslands, sandhill, scrub, and Flatwoods. Visitors can enjoy its trails and fishing areas.
Alafia Scrub Nature Preserve
One of the places to catch a view of the Alafia River is at the observation deck in this nature preserve. People also like walking its two marked hiking loop trails. The first one is 1.2km long, and the second one is around 2km. Visitors can explore tidal marshes, ravines, creeks, and scrub, among other natural habitats.
International Independent Showmen's Museum
Apart from exploring natural attractions, visitors can also experience the human side of the country's history. The International Independent Showmen's Museum provides a glimpse into the everyday lives of those who worked in carnivals. The museum exhibits artifacts, memorabilia, and photographs of the carnivals.
What Does SERVPRO Do to Ensure Satisfactory Water Mitigation in Riverview Residences?
Whenever there is a water intrusion in a property, various factors come into play, determining the outcome. How fast the water mitigation processes are carried out can have a significant impact. Speedy water extraction and drying of wet materials help stop the deterioration of materials—for instance, wood swells or warps when wet. Mold can also develop on contents or structural materials.
SERVPRO IICRC certified technicians has sufficient resources, including water extraction and drying equipment, to expedite water mitigation. Our technicians also take further management steps to ensure the intervention delivers the expected results, including:
- Setting drying goals
- Monitoring the wet materials to verify drying processes work
